Basic Life Support

Basic Life Support is the foundation on which First Aid and Safety Patrol of Lebanon was built. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) provide the Basic Life Support at First Aid and Safety Patrol of Lebanon. These units are supplied with oxygen, bandaging supplies and automated external defibrillators.   Basic Life Support providers are the backbone of the emergency medical services system in the Lebanon Valley. The Emergency Medical Technician is the foundation from which good Paramedics are built.

Becoming an EMT requires participation in a certified program. These programs range in length. Training for the EMT program requires a minimum of 126 hours and testing for the Pennsylvania Department of Health. In addition to the successful completion of the didactic portion of the program, students are required to perform some 100 hours of clinical training under the direct supervision of a Pennsylvania certified Emergency Medical Technician.  After receiving all appropriate approvals from the Pennsylvania Department of Health a certified Emergency Medical Technician must then successfully complete a  First Aid and Safety Patrol of Lebanon pre-hospital basic life support orientation and training program.  Certification as an EMT is required to begin the Paramedic program.

First Aid and Safety Patrol of Lebanon’s Basic Life Support Services range from the routine non-emergent transportation of patients to the Basic Life Support level street emergency. First Aid and Safety Patrol of Lebanon’s EMT's also perform sporting event stand-bys, special event staffing, BIKE TEAM duties, and participate in the Commonwealth's Disaster Preparedness readiness functions.

First Aid and Safety Patrol of Lebanon offers it's Emergency Medical Technicians the opportunity to continue their education and become Pennsylvania licensed Paramedics through the utilization of the First Aid and Safety Patrol of Lebanon Employee Assistance Program (EAP).   This program provides financial assistance to employees wishing to continue in their emergency medical services career.  The program pays for a portion (or all) of the employees school expenses in return for a commitment of continued employment following the successful completion  of their paramedic program.  The length of the commitment is contingent on the amount of financial assistance accepted by the employee.

First Aid and Safety Patrol of Lebanon also offers a a "Driver to EMT" program.  This unique program offers an opportunity for an individual to become an employee of First Aid and Safety Patrol of Lebanon as a wheelchair van driver and utilize the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to attend an approved Emergency Medical Technician program.

If you are interested in either of our Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) please contact Scott Paul at First Aid and Safety Patrol of Lebanon at (717) 272-1234 or by e-mail at director@faspems.com.
